Every household needs child-friendly books about rain because rain is a natural occurrence that kids can absolutely enjoy whenever it happens.
My book, “Jensen’s Lullaby,” is a love letter to my beautiful daughter, Jensen. It’s a lullaby that tells her how much I love her and that one day, she will understand that a mother’s love will always stay with their children. I’m also a big fan of the rain, so I wrote a children’s book about rain to convey how much I love my daughter and the rain simultaneously.
However, I’m not the only author who loves rain and writes children’s books. So, let’s go ahead and take a look at some of those books, including mine!
“Jensen’s Lullaby” by Teresa Haven Pelinski
A week before my daughter Jensen was born, I penned this lovely song/children’s book for her out of pure love. I tell her right away that she is my little angel, sent by God from heaven to shower me, her mother, with love. I’m grateful for becoming her mother and my affection for her.
I also assure her that the day will come when she realizes how unconditional her mother’s love is. The lullaby continues with her eventually leaving alone, getting married, and remembering what it will be like to have her baby girl.
My love for my daughter Jensen is beyond words. She will always be my little girl. I’m very grateful to God for blessing me with her, my happy, tiny, blue-eyed girl. My other books also teach how we can live life with faith, similar to a child’s.
“A Good Day for Ducks,” by Jane Whittingham
“A Good Day for Ducks” is about a brother and sister who appreciate the great things they can do indoors and outdoors on a rainy day. This cozy book captures the beauty of a rainy day.
It’s really captivating as well; I adore the lyrical, rhythmic quality, the usage of onomatopoeia (plenty of splish splash and drip drop), and the wonderful pacing. When she was a smaller child, she would say, “Read drip drop.” A kind, friendly book for young readers in the rain!
“Who Likes Rain?” by Wong Herbert Yee
“Who Likes Rain?” is a great and lovely book for toddlers and preschoolers alike; it rhymes about rain. This particular book is about a young child who goes on her own rainy-day excursion and discovers what and who in her surroundings needs and enjoys rain!
It’s also incredibly interactive, as each page offers the possibility to predict what animal or object will appear on the following one. An excellent way to inspire us to observe the natural world around us.
This is certainly one of those child-friendly books about rain that your bookshelf needs. Your bookshelf will have one of the most awesome rain kids’ books. Jensen’s lullaby, my children’s book about rain, can also be a great addition to any household’s bookshelf!
“Down Comes the Rain” by Franklyn M. Branley With Illustrations by James Graham Hale
For children who are interested in learning about rain, this non-fiction book is an excellent resource. At three years old, Riley began to ask questions about rain, and although this was meant for a little older audience, it did help to explain rain in a straightforward way. What an amazing series this is!
“Soaked!” by Abi Cushman
For older toddlers and preschoolers, this delightfully humorous and enjoyable book about rain has just become one of our favorites! Bear, a hybrid of Bruce and Eeyore, is extremely irrational when it rains since it destroys everything he values. He pouts and sulks, but eventually, he learns how to enjoy the rainy day with the support of his eccentric group of friends!
